Trend To Try - Boyfriend Shirts

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Friend Of Mine Kitty shirt
A big trend for this coming summer is loose fitting shirts or boyfriend shirts.  The kind you borrow for their relaxed fit that are a bit too big for you, but just so comfy and easy to wear.  I personally think they look best a little unbuttoned worn with very little else, as pictured above and below.  But if you want to go out and about in yours, keep your lower half garment fitted like the bottom two pictures so the volume of the shirt doesn't overwhelm your frame and lose all your curves.  The white Bassike one (middle below) would look much better a little more unbuttoned.  My favourite is the Twentysevennames shirt below for it's beautiful colour and gorgeous sheer fabric.  Whether you borrow your boyfriend's or buy your own this is one item that is a must have this summer.

Monday Must Have From Aurelie Bidermann

Monday, August 30, 2010

This amazing cuff combines two of my favourite things, silver and lace, in such a clever way.  It looks like a piece of lace was dipped in silver, but as I understand the process is much more complicated than that.  It is made by French jewellery designer Aurelie Bidermann, who is known for her delicate and feminine pieces.  At 669 euros from http://www.mytheresa.com/ it's certainly an expensive piece of silver, but one that would add a pretty different girly touch to any outfit.

Miranda Kerr Sizzles In 3D

Sunday, August 29, 2010

3D has come back into fashion in a big way lately.  Photoshoots in 3D are popping up all over the place with varying degrees of success.  New Zealand magazine Remix also recently did a 3D issue with an alternate 3D cover.  However their shoot had nothing on this seriously sexy one for Vogue Italia featuring Miranda Kerr and shot by Steven Meisel.  The September cover shot is demure and beautiful but the shoot inside is rather provocative and shows just how stunning Miranda really is.  This is definitely one magazine that is not safe for work viewing and somehow I think getting the 3D glasses out would give it away.

Thurley Gives Me Butterflies

Sunday, August 29, 2010

Dawn Gown
The Butterfly Effect is the latest collection from Melbourne label Thurley.  It's another gorgeous feminine collection filled with beautiful silk and lace dresses trimmed with amazing jewel and beading details.  This season designer Helen O'Connor has gone for a colour palette of subdued neutrals - grey, brown, ivory and black with stunning coral pieces to brighten things up.  Thurley is one of my favourite labels as the garments are timeless and stunning, each piece is just exquisite and cut perfectly.

This season's lookbook is shot sublimely, it's so perfect for the butterfly theme and I again struggled to choose the pieces and shots to put up as there were so many I loved.  Thurley dresses always make me feel like a princess and really feminine.  I love designers that cut and drape well to flatter the female form and Helen O'Connor always delivers that season after season.  This collection is just perfect to flit around in on warm summer days.

Swim Away With Seafolly

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Seafolly never fail to impress me with their gorgeous swimwear season after season.  I adore their lookbooks as the shoots are always beautiful and just make me wish it was summer already.  Their latest collection is no exception, featuring the stunning Jessica Hart, who is making a big splash in Australia at the moment.  She just shared the runway with Jennifer Hawkins for Myer and is an exciting new face in fashion who I'm sure we will be seeing a lot more of.  She is completely stunning and brings just the right playful energy to this shoot, and of course could not look more amazing in a swimsuit.

I just adore how retro pretty this collection is.  The ruffles, florals and gorgeous colours make for some really beautiful pieces.  They have done some other stripey plainer swimsuits but these girly ones are of course my favourites.  I want every piece on this page, although the Eden Maillot and English rose separates are my overall must-haves for their divine floral fabrics.  Swimwear has never looked more appealing.

A Little Fashion Humour

Thursday, August 26, 2010

This past week has been a hard one for me but I haven't stopped keeping up with what's going on in the world of fashion.  I spend several hours every day on the internet looking at all the new shoots, news and collections from the fashion world.  One of my favourites of the many fashion related emails I get everyday is the daily update from Flickrista, which is the fashion version of photography site Flickr.  These photos were in today's email, which couldn't have been more perfect as I was feeling rather tired and sad this morning.  They are by a young female photographer named Nirrimi Joy who at just 17 has built up an impressive portfolio on Flickr.  I'm going to have to do a proper post on her at some stage soon, her work is amazing.  Anyway, these photos made me smile so I thought I'd share them with you.  I hope they make you smile too.

Idyllic Edita

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

'Divine Idylle' is the name of this stunning photoshoot for Numero #116 and it certainly does look idyllic.  The light in these photos is just exquisite as is the amazing floral background.  As you can probably tell fashion photography is a great love/obsession/weakness of mine and finding shoots like this one always makes me happy.  I love that the styling and make-up has been kept simple in this shoot and they have let the alluring beauty of Lithuanian model Edita Vilkeviciute shine.  She's cheeky, gorgeous and utterly magnetic.

Shoe Of The Week - Bottega Veneta Flower Sandals

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

How adorable are these Bottega Veneta sandals?  They are so pretty and perfect for my summery mood at the moment.  Kind of ironic considering it's pouring here in New Zealand and sandals wouldn't have been an option today.  But the warmer weather is getting closer and these sweet little flats would be a great way to add a touch of spring to your outfit.  The rosette detail is just gorgeous and although these shoes are also available in a black patent version I far prefer this more vibrant pair.  At $504 (usd) from Bluefly.com they are on the pricey side but to skip through summer after summer in these beautifully crafted Italian sandals it would be worth it.

My Summer Holiday With Kate Sylvester

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Roberta shirt and Harmony skirt
I'm in the middle of planning my wardrobe to go on my late European summer holiday now and was just thinking about the kind of garments I want to wear while I'm away.  Kate Sylvester's new season collection 'A Charming Man' came to mind for it's relaxed vintage-y feel perfect for days out exploring, casual shopping trips and catching up with some of my favourite people overseas.

I love the insouciant but feminine feel of this collection with it's somewhat muted colour palette and pretty soft floral fabrics.  It has that perfect breezy holiday feel that I can imagine strolling the streets of Paris in and throwing the Marcelle blazer on when the temperature cools a little.

The best part about summer is clothing can be light and carefree.  I'm a dresses and skirts girl pretty much whatever the weather, but Kate has done some relaxed pants and shorts that would almost tempt me to wear them this season, but not quite.  I can just imagine going for drinks or to a show in the pretty Blythe dress (bottom photo) although fortunately that collar is detachable as I'm really not a fan of it.  Now if only I had the budget to buy this collection before the weekend that would be my holiday wardrobe sorted.

Scarlett Is A Vamp

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

I just came across this rather airbrushed image of Scarlett Johansson for Dolce and Gabbana The Makeup's new campaign for Fall 2010.  I have to say she looks amazing although a little like a gothic Barbie doll with the airbrushing of her face.  Her outfit is rather sexy though but it's a shame we can't see what the top looks like.  It's interesting to have seen dark lipstick come back again as it was such a big trend in the 90's.

“We wanted to discover a look that truly reflects our ‘story’ from the very beginning, yet truly reflects our reverence for today’s women, epitomized, of course by the divine Scarlett,” explains Stefano Gabbana of the Evocative Beauty Collection campaign. “It addresses what’s so ineffable about a woman - her fierce sensuality anchored by her innermost femininity,” adds Domenico Dolce.

Interesting how they see putting her in a tiny leather outfit reclining on leopard print as celebrating her sensuality and femininity, but Dolce and Gabbana have always been about the sexy side of fashion.  I'm not sure if I would go for dark lips again myself, I did that with varying degrees of success in the 90's but it is certainly an eye-catching image.

Monday Must Have from Karen Walker

Tambourine Top $295 (nzd)
Summer is getting closer every day and I'm already in the mood for summery clothes with my trip to the tail end of the European summer this weekend.  I love light floaty garments for warmer weather like this Tambourine top from Karen Walker's new 'Salzburg USA' collection.  Nude tones are going to be big again this summer and feature strongly in quite a few Australasian designers collections.  I love the beautiful ruffle details on this top, which make something which could have been simple and boring into something elegant and interesting, that could so easily be dressed up or down. Karen's entire new range is available at her online store http://shop.karenwalker.com/collections/salzburg-u-s-a-mainline and it is selling quickly as her collections tend to do.  This top would be perfect with a chic chignon to show off the pretty back details.

D is for Dimity So

Sunday, August 22, 2010

Temper Temper
As I have mentioned before I adore beautiful lingerie, I'm a firm believer that a stunning outfit should have equally gorgeous lingerie underneath.  Even when you're not wearing something hot, wearing something luscious and sexy underneath your clothes is a fantastic way to feel good about yourself.  I came across Dimity So in January when they were a new label and was seriously impressed with their first collection, I ended up getting quite a few pieces myself.

Dimity So is designed specifically for curvier women, their cup sizes are D - J only which is fantastic.  For a long time lingerie for bigger busted girls wasn't particularly beautiful or supportive in many cases, so Dimity So have created a label that designs fashion forward exquisite lingerie in sumptuous fabrics and flattering designs.  Being a D cup myself, I am definitely a fan.

Vivid Light

White Note
These are some of my favourite pieces, I just love the vibrant colours and beautiful little details like the bows.  I had real trouble picking just these ones as there are so many gorgeous pieces.  Dimity So are based in Australia but stocked all over the world now, they are also available through Bendon stores in New Zealand and online from a bunch of different e-tailers.  If you are a curvy girl looking for some new lingerie I definitely recommend checking them out, now I just have to try and decide what look I want next.

Blake Behind Bars

Thursday, August 19, 2010

I just saw these hot new shots today of Blake Lively's recent photoshoot for Interview magazine.  Best known for her role as Serena Van Der Woodsen on Gossip Girl, Blake has been busy making more movies in her down time from television.  The most recent of which is 'The Town' directed by Ben Affleck who's interview with Blake accompanies these photos.  In the film she plays a very un-Serena role of a 29 year old single mother who deals drugs to get by and has self destructive tendancies.  Should be very interesting to see her in such a different role.  The full interview is on the magazine's website (link below) and it's certainly a rather amusing read at times.  I love these pseudo 'security camera' photos as I personally think Blake is just gorgeous and styled oh so seductively here.  Love the scarlet lips too, I would say the officers that were arresting Miss Lively would have enjoyed themselves very much indeed from the looks of these photos.
