Kathryn's New Kicks

Saturday, August 7, 2010

Kathryn Wilson has been one of the rising stars of New Zealand's fashion scene over the past few years.  She has turned out solid collection after solid collection exemplifying her talent and innovative ideas as a footwear designer.  Her stylish and stunning footwear is designed in New Zealand with quality leathers and components sourced from Europe.  She now has many stockists in New Zealand and Australia and as I mentioned in my NZFW post is doing her own show at New Zealand Fashion Week this year.

Her new season collection has 1950's influences and features a striking colour palette of melon pink, red, indigo and aqua blue alongside neutrals like taupe, cream and black.  I love that she does so much blue in her collections, blue doesn't seem to be a particularly common colour for footwear aside from navy.  As I'm someone with a serious collection of blue garments, it's nice to have more similarly hued choices to match them with.  Her Frith heel is one of my favourites and is certainly a new interpretation of more famous blue suede shoes.

Another feature of her new season collection is the subtle perforated detail on both her mens and ladies shoes.  Her Pederson loafer is the perfect mix of feminine and practical and I love that she has again used cute back zips, like on the Carr heel, this season.

For the guys Kathryn has reworked her immensely popular Jimmy boot and done a colourful array of trainers and boat shoes.  Once again she has delivered a gorgeous collection of stylish footwear sure to find favour with every shoe lover this summer.
