Lovely and Lonely Hearts

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

I adore these exquisite new shots from talented young kiwi photographer Jessica Sim.  Model Michaela from Nova could not look more beautiful in this delicate Lonely by Lonely Hearts lingerie.  I love the moody lighting, gorgeous make-up and really want to see some more of this amazing lingerie.  Check out Jessica's blog to see some more of her stunning work, having recently shot Remix's stellar covershoot, I'm sure she is going to go a long way.

Monday Must Have from Cybele

Monday, September 27, 2010

Now that NZFW is over I can catch up on the blogging I had no chance to do last week (my NZFW wrap up is still to come soon).  Today's must have is the Andromeda singlet and it comes from one of my favourite kiwi designers Cybele Wiren.  Now that summer is around the corner and the weather is finally starting to pick up I'm thinking about lovely light fabrics like silk that won't have to be layered with wool soon - yay!  This long singlet is 100% silk and such a great retro inspired print.  It's from Cybele's current New Clear Woman collection and is a good price at $219 (nzd).  The image below is from Cybele's lookbook and it's featured with the Galazy leggings and Telepathy Long jacket.

NZFW - Juliette's Gorgeous Girls

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

My sincerest apologies for the lack of posting this week, I've been super busy working on NZFW's PR team which means my days are crazy busy without much time for eating much less posting.  It's late here but I just had to post these images from one of my favourite kiwi designers Juliette Hogan.  Her collection for Autumn/Winter 2011 is titled 'The morning after the night before' which has meant she has done her usual subtle feminine clothes with a naughty edge this time.  The prim and proper muse has let her hair down a bit and embraced some shorter hemlines, structured leather jackets (reminescent of Celine) and some sexier styling.

I adored this show, everything from the stunning hair to beautiful make-up, fantastic soundtrack and of course gorgeous collection had a big smile stuck to my face from beginning to end.  Some of my favourite pieces were the navy polkadot garments, especially the dress with cute tan bow belt (bottom photo) and I just loved the nude one shoulder dress below.  Yet again Juliette has produced a collection of beautifully feminine but modern clothes that are totally wearable and just so pretty.  Watch the video from the show here

Spring Is In NY

Carolina Herrera

I have been so busy with New Zealand Fashion Week preparations that I haven't had a chance to blog my favourite looks from New York this past week.  I'm not pretending to be Style.com, so I don't see the point in doing reviews of each collection when they do such a great job of them as do several other sites, and to be honest I don't have time to review every collection I loved at the moment, especially as London Fashion Week has started already and I'm catching up on those collections too.

Here are some of the looks I loved from some of my favourite labels who showed in New York for Spring 2011.  It was quite a task to choose just one look from these collections, but these outfits are all fantastic, as I'm in the mood for dresses as per usual, I chose mostly gorgeous red carpet looks ranging from simplistic white minimalism from Narciso Rodriguez to the intricate embellished beauty of Marchesa.  Enjoy.

Shoe Of The Week - Charlotte Olympia's Esmerelda

Thursday, September 16, 2010

They may not have the prettiest name but these Esmerelda Perspex-heeled pumps from designer Charlotte Olympia are just gorgeous.  The lush black velvet looks fantastic next to the modern yellow perspex heels and the spiderweb motif on the underneath of the shoe is a great quirky touch.  They are definitely not for those who are on a budget as at £856.96 they are more of an investment piece.  But being of a relatively classic style they could be worn season after season, the yellow perspex certainly gives them a stunning point of difference.  For those of you who love them as much as I do, they also come with a pair of yellow toned tights to match - perfect.

Casual Couture

Thursday, September 16, 2010

I love this new shoot for Vogue Germany's October issue featuring model Anya Rubik and shot by Camilla Akrans.  The way they have taken gorgeous haute couture garments from Dior, Givenchy, Valentino, Atelier Versace and Chanel among others and styled them with bed hair and casual poses to make a shoot that's subtle, but beautiful really appeals to me.  It feels like we are kind of catching the model playing dress-up or like the shots are taken between shots so to speak.  It's insouciant but alluring at the same time and I love that they have contrasted the intricate couture with more natural hair and make-up, as couture is so often shot with really dramatic styling, lighting and poses.  Simply pretty, love it.

Cinderella Heart's Monique Lhuillier

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

'Fit for a princess' would be an apt description of Monique Lhuillier's New York show for Spring/Summer 2011.  The designer who specialises in luscious gowns for glamourous occasions has created a collection of heavenly dresses with intricate detailing that would definitely leave any princess to be breathless.  Sublime gowns that would look incredible gracing any red carpet, came down the runway in a pretty palette of scarlet, azure, ivory, silver and soft nude and pink tones.  Truly a magnificent collection of enchanting gowns, I would be hard pressed to pick a favourite as there were so many gorgeous looks on the runway, but the scarlet and azure dresses below are certainly showstoppers.

Her ladylike collection also includes delectable daywear in feminine silhouettes and beautiful laces and silks.  I love how delicate, graceful but wearable these looks are, I could just imagine them being worn to a girly tea party or out for a long champagne lunch.  This collection really is a love letter to femininity and I just adore every piece.

Marc Jacobs Works His Magic

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

The seventies were back with a vengance in all their decadent, hedonistic glory on the runway of Marc Jacob's New York show this week.  Beautiful rich shades of burgundy, gold, scarlet, grape and candyfloss in silks, satins, chiffons and knit Missoni style prints made for a stunning Spring/Summer 2011 collection.

Amazing voluminous maxi dresses, sexy halters and hot pants worked with print coats, satin pants and 'Taxi Driver' style straw hats, to create glamourous looks that would be perfect for hot summer days and sweltering nights out.  I thought this collection was fantastic, I love the vibrant colours, gorgeous fabrics and clever draping.  The seventies have never looked more captivating and radiant, yet again Jacobs has created a collection that will be coveted by fashion followers the world over.

Monday Must Have from Arnsdorf

Monday, September 13, 2010

I love this figure hugging Arnsdorf Jersey Strap skirt I found today on MyCatwalk.  It's such a simple but effective design and comes in 3 pretty colours to choose from: mauve (above), nude and jade (both below).  It's just the perfect weight and colours for Spring while being a good price for a designer garment $307 (nzd).  I've been a fan of Arnsdorf for a few seasons now, since first discovering her at my first RAFW a couple of years ago in Sydney.  The designer of the label is Melbournite Jade Sarita Arnsdorf and I just love her use of beautiful feminine colours and clever use of tailoring and structure.  I was really excited to learn she has relocated the label from Australia to New York as I'm sure she will do amazing things there.  In the meantime this is a fantastic piece of Arnsdorf to invest in for Spring, now which gorgeous colour to choose?
