A Princess Moment

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

Every girl wants to be a princess for a day.  I've had a few princess moments in my lifetime, having worn gowns on a handful of occasions (but not nearly often enough).  I absolutely adore this shot of Blake Lively from her Vanity Fair shoot from May 2008, it may be a couple of years old now but it's such a gorgeous photo.  I love the bare feet, discarded shoes and casual pose in this photo.  She looks like she's come home from the ball, it's morning already and she's just kicked off her shoes and collapsed into this chair, her Atelier Versace dress splayed around her.  As much as I love the perfection of being freshly made up, there is something so magnetic and appealing about the less than perfect, slightly dishevelled glow she has.  This shot really is just so pretty and reminds me of a dear friend of mine.

Aurelio Lights Up The Southern Summer

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

With party season upon us I'm in the mood for dressing up.  Evening gowns in particular are some of my absolute favourite garments (I'm a sucker for a princess moment).  Known for his amazing red carpet creations is West Australian designer Aurelio Costarella, whose Spring/Summer collection is so incredibly beautiful, I'm wishing for an occasion worthy enough to wear one of these stunning pieces.

My favourite is the midnight blue gown above with pretty shoulder detail.  Everything from the draping to the gorgeous colour and flowing skirt make me wish it was mine to flit about in.  The colour palette of this collection is subtle but the intricate details and clever structure of the garments make each piece oh so covetable.  Life should definitely have more red carpet worthy moments to show off these sublime creations.

Monday Must Have From White Sands

Monday, November 29, 2010

Summer is officially just two days away now, so this week's must have just had to be a swimsuit.  This cute one piece is from Aussie label White Sands 'Shipwrecked' collection and is called the Sandra Maillot.  I love the rope print details and the sweet little scarlet bows on the straps (which are removable if you're that way inclined).  It's just $189 (aud) and available at White Sands online store along with their entire super cute swimwear collection.  Bring on days by the pool and at the beach.

The Fantastic Sass and Bide

Monday, November 29, 2010

Sass and Bide officially opened their New Zealand store last Wednesday with a party attended by all the local fashionistas.  I'm still unimpressed that I was too sick to attend, but I thought I would celebrate the event by showing you some of their new resort collection 'Fantastic Projects'.  Sass and Bide are known for their modern, directional and often tribal influenced clothing which isn't usually what I go for.  But I have to say that some of these dresses from their new collection could be defined as pretty and I would definitely wear them.  I love the soft colour palette and clever draping, although I would love it if the skirt length was just a bit longer - for practical reasons of course.  Perfect pieces for the party season, the last dress pictured is definitely a show stopper in person.

Juliette's Sweet Summer

Sunday, November 28, 2010

One of my absolute favourite kiwi designers, Juliette Hogan, has just released a second summer range for the first time.  Her pretty new collection features light as air cotton dresses, blouses and skirts that are just perfect for balmy summer days.  I have many of Juliette's summer clothes from previous seasons on high rotation in my wardrobe, as her pieces are not only beautiful but really comfortable and easy to wear.

This second summer range is just so sweet, I really couldn't pick a favourite piece although I adore the navy polka dot blouse above and I'm certain I can find room for the versatile ivory cotton dress below in my wardrobe.  Juliette's collections always appeal to my own pretty aesthetic, I could cheerfully buy every piece she creates every season, this cute little collection is no exception.

Taylor's Siren Call

Sunday, November 28, 2010

I just came across these stunning photos on Fashionising.com of model Taylor Nicole posing as a modern day siren.  Shot by Lexi Montoya, these are certainly sublime images, the use of backlighting with blonde hair always looks amazing in my opinion, like it's angel hair spun from gold.  The tights in the second shot down are really striking and I love the use of transparent fabrics with clever lighting, the black and white shot below is my favourite from this shoot.

Petal Pretty Rihanna

Sunday, November 28, 2010

Scarlet-haired princess of pop, Rihanna, has released what has to be the prettiest music video of the year titled 'Only Girl In The World'.  This clip is shot and styled so beautifully, between the pink hued lighting, floral backdrop and cute tutu it really couldn't be much girlier and I love it.

Just So Vintage

Sunday, November 28, 2010

I absolutely adore beautiful lingerie, it is a great love/obsession/weakness of mine.  I came across this amazing website a little while ago and just had to share it with you.  What Katie Did is a UK based boutique specialising in vintage inspired lingerie, swimwear and hosiery.  They have the most gorgeous collections of authentic looking vintage lingerie in sumptuous fabrics and trims that are guaranteed to make every girl feel womanly and curvaceous.

Lucky for us on this side of the world, they ship internationally and quite quickly too.  If you're after that Mad Men look and feel for your undergarments you should definitely make this boutique your first stop.  Let's face it who doesn't want the glorious curves of Christina Hendricks, although pieces like these are really too exquisite to cover up.

Candice Goes Grunge

Thursday, November 25, 2010

I just love this stunning shoot featuring South African model Candice Boucher and shot by Kenneth Willardt for A magazine.  These photos have such fantastic texture, the fabrics, lighting and background really give them a grungey feel, that's just a bit 90's.

The styling and make-up make me think of all the rock godesses of that time like Liz Phair or Fiona Apple, whose Criminal video is one of my all time favourites for it's amazing aesthetics. Long live the great influences of the 90's.

Monday Must Have From Ingrid Starnes

Monday, November 22, 2010

I came across this beautiful Tissue Silk Kimono Shirt dress from local designer Ingrid Starnes today and fell completely in love with it's simplicity and gorgeousness.  How cute and delicate is the drawing above from Ingrid's lookbook too?  I included the original photos below as the dress is available in Ink and Oyster as well.  It's such a versatile look and I adore the use of the contrasting belt on the silk.  This is one of those classic pieces that you would buy and wear forever.  At $405 (nzd) it would definitely be worth the investment.

How adorable is this debut collection from local designer Katie-Maree Cole?  Entitled 'Painted.Me' It's small but oh so perfectly formed, with some super cute additions to your summer wardrobe.  I love her beautiful use of colour and relaxed, wearable silhouettes.

Anne's Happy Ever After

Saturday, November 13, 2010

The ever radiant Anne Hathaway features on the cover of US Vogue this month and has done a beautiful modern day fairy tale shoot for the issue too.  Shot by the uber-talented Mario Testino, Anne stars alongside French actor RaphaĆ«l Personnaz in the aptly titled 'Happily Ever After' shoot.  Featuring breathtaking gowns from legendary designers Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera and Isaac Mizrahi, the shoot definitely has a glamourous feel.  I just love the top photo of Anne's homage to Audrey Hepburn in 'Breakfast At Tiffanys', if anyone could excel at channelling Audrey, it would absolutely be Anne.
