Enchanting Atelier Versace

Sunday, March 20, 2011

Atelier Versace make some of the most incredible red carpet dresses on the planet and their gowns for Spring 2011 are as phenomenal as always.  One of Australia's hottest modeling exports, Abbey Lee Kershaw, is the gorgeous face and body of their new lookbook, which features 32 images of some truly stunning creations.

If you were paying attention to the red carpet at this year's Oscars, you will have seen a few of these gowns on some of Hollywood's hottest starlets, including hostess Anne Hathaway.  How amazing would it be to get to wear one of these fabulously intricate creations?  Fortunately these beautiful photos make it easy for a girl to dream.

Oh So Precious

Juliette Hogan
I have a confession to make, which will come as no suprise to those of you who know me or have been reading this blog for a while.  I absolutely, completely adore online shopping.  Especially the fashion kind.  I don't know if it's the wonderful 24/7 convenience of it, or the ability to buy amazing things from all over the world that I can't buy here in little old New Zealand.  But I am totally hooked and have been for over 10 years now, since a friend of mine first introduced me to it in 2000.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a frivolous, buy anything just because it's cool or on sale type of shopper.  I am pretty selective about what I buy, but the choices online are certainly extensive.  Now getting back to the point of this post, I finally got to try new kiwi based online store Precious Peg last week and was suitably impressed by them.

They stock a prettty wide range of garments and accessories for a new store and are the first online stockist of one of my favourite labels Juliette Hogan, which is exciting (Juliette will eventually be stocked in every corner of the globe one day if I have my way).  Stolen Girlfriends Club, Karen Walker, Turet Knuefermann, Kate Sylvester, Huffer, Zambesi and Twentysevennames all grace the virtual racks of this new venture.

So of course I just had to order something to try out this store.  Yes, that something was a Juliette Hogan piece.  Anyway, I found the store really easy to use and was suitable impressed when despite choosing the free shipping option, which had a 5 day delivery time, my item arrived by courier in just two days.  Just in time for me to wear it to a photoshoot actually, which was perfect timing.

If you're after beautiful New Zealand and Australian fashion finds that are able to be shipped to any corner of the globe, definitely check out Precious Peg for womenswear.  All of the garments featured on this page are available at their online store plus many more.

The Amazing Miss Amanda

Sunday, March 20, 2011

Amanda Seyfried's star is most definitely on the rise.  The beautiful young starlet has come a long way since her memorable role as the ditsy Karen in 2004's hit film 'Mean Girls'.  Her latest film 'Red Riding Hood' has just been released in the states and is set to make this gorgeous blonde an even bigger star.

As is the deal with promoting a big hollywood film, Amanda has done a slew of interviews and photoshoots to chat about her new project.  In the past few weeks she has appeared on the covers of fashion magazines Elle US, Marie Claire UK and Interview among others, as well as doing editorial shoots for their glossy pages.

I've compiled the shots I like from all 3 of those shoots, as I couldn't decide between them as to which one of the 3 to post.  Interestingly enough, they have all taken a similar approach as far as the garments go with romantic lace, chiffon and silk dresses featured strongly.  Amanda really does make a rather stunning model, she has that pretty ingenue look down to a tee.

Emmanuelle Alt's Elegant Debut

Monday, March 14, 2011

When legendary French editrix Carine Roitfeld announced she was stepping down from her role as Editor in Chief of Vogue Paris late last year, the fashion world were all wondering how she could possibly be replaced and what direction her infamous edition of Vogue would take.  Ably stepping up into Roitfeld's incredible shoes is her former fashion director, Emmanuelle Alt, whose debut issue for April 2011 has just been released.

Gracing the cover is the gorgeous Gisele Bundchen in a sweet and simple Dolce and Gabbana sheer white dress, with natural make-up and no accessories.  Perhaps a sign of Alt's softer take on Vogue Paris or possibly her way of wiping the slate clean to begin afresh with no fuss?  Whichever way you choose to interpret the cover of her first issue, it will certainly be interesting to read the new issue and see what she has to say for herself.

Intriguingly enough that same dress has featured on two other European Vogue edition's covers this year.  Both Vogue Germany and Vogue Spain used that dress on their April and February covers respectively, making it either a very popular choice or a somewhat embarassing pr mishap.  I also featured the Vogue Spain cover on my blog last month as I loved the dress too.

Anyway, I for one am always excited about the possibilities of fresh leadership and can't wait to have a look at the new issue for myself.  I'm sure Emmanuelle Alt has big plans for Vogue Paris and it will be very interesting to see what see does with it next.

Monday Must Have From Zimmermann

Monday, March 14, 2011

I haven't done a Monday Must Have in ages, so I thought I should bring them back.  Especially as it's new season time and there are so many inspiring finds to be had.  For my first Monday Must Have of 2011 I chose this gorgeous Trivial Garden Trench Dress by Zimmermann, as I absolutely adore it.

It's such a wonderfully feminine piece and beautiful floral print, the paler contrasting belt and panels are a lovely touch.  At $890 (aud) it's definitely an investment piece, but it's such a classic style you could wear it forever.  If you just can't resist the temptation you can buy it online here.

Lonely Little Bandits

Friday, March 11, 2011

Lonely Hearts is one of my favourite local labels and I just adore their new collection for Autumn/Winter 2011 entitled 'Little Bandits'.  It's really pretty and feminine with romantic florals, silks, lace and velvet.

I love that it's youthful and beautiful, but also has a naughty edge.  I actually can't pick a favourite piece from this collection as I adore it all.  Autumn is here in the southern hemisphere and I have to admit I'm going to enjoy wearing lovely layers again.

A Little Fashion Whimsy

Friday, March 11, 2011

I love my fashion photography with a dash of fun and humour.  UK photographer Tim Walker is one of my favourite photographers, mostly for his wonderful playfulness and sense of whimsy in his work.  He is also known for his incredible sets and wonderful art direction.

These are some of my most loved photos of his, they're beautiful and always bring a smile to my face.  I hope you love them too.  You can check out more of his amazing work here.

Fine Young Talent

Monday, March 7, 2011

Harper's Bazaar Australia's beautiful new April issue has just been released and it's 3 fold cover is a celebration of incredible local acting talent.  Shot by Benny Horne, it features Abbie Cornish, Alice Englert and Rachael Taylor who have all been making names for themselves onscreen, both in Australia and overseas.

Abbie Cornish has already been taking on Hollywood over the past few years and I'm sure Alice and Rachael will do the same.  These images are just sublime and each girl makes a truly gorgeous model.  Definitely names and stunning faces to keep an eye out for in future.

Alluring Anja

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

How pretty is this retro inspired shoot of Polish model Anja Rubik?  Shot by Marcin Tyszka for Vogue Latin America, it's a stylish take on nude tones with a vintage feel.  These photos highlight the gorgeous texture of the fabrics, from the fishnets, wool and silks, to that incredible dress covered in pailettes in the bottom photo.  I love her expressions in these shots and the effective use of simple make-up with the heavy winged eyeliner.  Subtle, sexy and effortlessly stunning.
