Emmanuelle Alt's Elegant Debut

Monday, March 14, 2011

When legendary French editrix Carine Roitfeld announced she was stepping down from her role as Editor in Chief of Vogue Paris late last year, the fashion world were all wondering how she could possibly be replaced and what direction her infamous edition of Vogue would take.  Ably stepping up into Roitfeld's incredible shoes is her former fashion director, Emmanuelle Alt, whose debut issue for April 2011 has just been released.

Gracing the cover is the gorgeous Gisele Bundchen in a sweet and simple Dolce and Gabbana sheer white dress, with natural make-up and no accessories.  Perhaps a sign of Alt's softer take on Vogue Paris or possibly her way of wiping the slate clean to begin afresh with no fuss?  Whichever way you choose to interpret the cover of her first issue, it will certainly be interesting to read the new issue and see what she has to say for herself.

Intriguingly enough that same dress has featured on two other European Vogue edition's covers this year.  Both Vogue Germany and Vogue Spain used that dress on their April and February covers respectively, making it either a very popular choice or a somewhat embarassing pr mishap.  I also featured the Vogue Spain cover on my blog last month as I loved the dress too.

Anyway, I for one am always excited about the possibilities of fresh leadership and can't wait to have a look at the new issue for myself.  I'm sure Emmanuelle Alt has big plans for Vogue Paris and it will be very interesting to see what see does with it next.
