Catherine Middleton's Exquisite Royal Wedding Gown

Friday, April 29, 2011

The moment fashionistas the world over have been waiting for since late last year has finally arrived, when we got the first proper glimpse of Catherine Middleton's exquisite royal wedding gown.  Widely rumoured to be made by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, but a very well kept secret, that was confirmed at precisely 11am when Catherine exited the car at Westminster Abbey and we got to see the amazing gown in it's sublime entirety.

A beautifully traditional ivory gown made from silk gazar, in Catherine's understated but elegant style.  The gown is high necked with a sculpted bodice and chantilly lace overlay, it has full length lace sleeves with delicate covered buttons up the inside of the sleeves.  The lace applique was handmade by the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace and the design of the lace was custom made to incorporate the four emblems of the United Kingdom; the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock.  Nipped in at the waist, the gown has a full skirt designed to resemble an opening flower and the train is a modest 9ft length but perfectly matched to the style of the garment.  Her low heeled ivory silk shoes are also by McQueen.

Sarah Burton had this to say about working on Catherine's wedding gown: "It has been the experience of a lifetime to work with Catherine Middleton to create her wedding dress, and I have enjoyed every moment of it. It was such an incredible honour to be asked, and I am so proud of what we and the Alexander McQueen team have created".

To complete her bridal look, Catherine is wearing a stunning sheer veil trimmed with hand embroidered flowers and fastened to a diamond and pearl tiara, with her long dark locks flowing down her back.  The tiara is a 1936 Cartier Halo tiara lent to her by the Queen herself.  Catherine is also wearing simple diamond drop earrings in the shape of acorns by Robinson Pelham.

Her maid of honour, sister Pippa Middleton's dress is also by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen and her's is an ivory sheath dress with scooped cowl neckline and flared from the knee skirt.  She also looks completely stunning and wonderfully happy to be a part of her sister's big day.

Catherine really looks like the perfect fairytale princess and every inch a radiant bride.  I absolutely adore her gown and think she made the perfect choice.  She stayed true to her own feminine and classic personal style and could not have looked more gorgeous as she positively glowed with happiness throughout the day.  I think every female in the world swooned when she arrived at the altar and her bridegroom prince's first words to her were 'You look beautiful'.

Congratulations Catherine and William, now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.  I sincerely hope you have a very long and happy life together.
