Charmed By Ruby

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

The word that sprung to my mind upon seeing this collection was delightful and on second glance I'm convinced I was spot on.  Ruby's take on Spring/Summer 2011/12 is simply sweet and completely charming, in one of the softest colour palettes I've seen for the upcoming season.  Little dresses, short shorts and playsuits are all part of their new season range, with some touches of warmth  for the cooler nights coming from loose knits and lightweight trenches.

I love all the texture in this collection, the bold lattice like lace on the yellow dress (3rd photo down) is a standout for me and the subtle print on the dress below is suitably dreamy and perfect for Spring.  Ruby's collections always feel fresh, young and playful with touches of romance, and this one is no exception.  It's incredibly lovely and I can't wait until the weather warms a little and these pretty pieces are in store.

Marloes Sizzles For Seafolly

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

The sublimely beautiful Marloes Horst has just been announced as Seafolly's ambassador for the new season.  These gorgeous images have also just been released from their upcoming campaign shot in the Maldives, featuring the lovely Dutch beauty looking every inch a sun kissed goddess on the beach.  I love the sandy, insouciant look of the top shot and that gingham two-piece is really rather pretty.  I'm a big fan of Seafolly's swimwear and can't wait to see their latest collection.

Seriously Spellbound

Sunday, June 26, 2011

This suitably moody film noir inspired shoot is entitled 'Spellbound' and was styled by the legendary Grace Coddington for US Vogue's July issue.  Featuring striking models Lara Stone, Frida Gustavsson and Alexander Skarsgard and shot by photographer Peter Lindbergh, this shoot is1940's glamour at it's best.

Aside from the winsome styling, I adore the composition of these shots and dramatic lighting.  I absolutely cannot choose a favourite as every shot is sublime in it's own way.  This dream team never fail to create magic in front of the lens and on the page, I can only imagine how fantastic it would be to work on set with such creative genius.

Just So Jenny Packham

Sunday, June 26, 2011

When the radiant Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in shimmery Jenny Packham a couple of weeks ago the world was reminded of just how glamourous British fashion can be.  Catherine's blush coloured gown was was from Jenny Packham's Spring/Summer 2011 collection and it really is a red carpet worthy range.

I just had another look at the beautiful outfits that graced the runway and chose a few of my favourite ones below.  I also found the image of Catherine's gown on the runway too, although I have to say it looks that much more fantastic on the blissfully happy newlywed above.

Florence By Gucci

Sunday, June 26, 2011

I love this sweet sketch of chanteuse Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine.  Her North American summer tour outfits are being designed by none other than Frida Giannini from Gucci and this is a preview of the exclusive costumes Florence will wear onstage.  It doesn't get much more glamourous than having your costumes custom designed by Gucci, I can't wait to see the rest of the looks.

Oh Honey!

Sunday, June 26, 2011

Beautiful delicates are a passion of mine.  Silk, satin and lace feel amazing on the skin and I'm a firm believer that a gorgeous outfit should have lingerie every bit as lovely underneath it.  I have been meaning to write about Honey Birdette's incredible Australian lingerie stores since I came across the Westfield Sydney one earlier in the year.  It was with great delight that I recently discovered they also have an online store and ship pretty much everywhere.

Labelled a sensuality boutique, Honey Birdette stock everything a girl needs to make her bedroom a fantastic place to be.  Stunning lingerie, hosiery, accessories, toys and books are all part of the shopping experience.  I went into the store with a friend of mine and ended up spending well over an hour in there trying on gorgeous garments and of course left with a bunch of pretty new fancies, after some expert advice and corset lacing from the helpful shop assistant.

Pictured is just a small amount of the serious collection of amazing lingerie Honey Birdette has on offer, they also stock a great selection of one of my favourite labels Pleasure State.  If you're in Australia I highly recommend a visit to one of their beautiful boutiques, which really must be experienced by lingerie fans.  I'm sure, like me, you will struggle to choose which pieces you want most, but that's definitely not a bad thing!

Little Miss Hood

Thursday, June 23, 2011

This has to be the sweetest little cape I've seen in ages and the fact that it's technically a dressing gown makes it even more adorable.  It's from Peter Alexander's new 'Magical Forest' collection which is full of whimsical sleepwear and super cute slippers.  I've been a fan of his gorgeous collections for years and this 'In Da Hood' red cape is definitely being added to the list of my must-have's for this winter.

You can become your own version of Little Red Riding Hood in this pretty cape, which features a satin lined hood with pom pom tassles and two side pockets.  It's definitely one of those pieces that will help keep you toasty warm and you can use it as daywear or as a dressing gown.  Adorable, versatile and at $119 (AUD) and $149 (NZD) it's a great price too.  If you just can't resist temptation you can buy your own online here.

Captivating Claudia

Friday, June 17, 2011

I've been looking at lots of 90's fashion photos lately and out of all the great supermodels of the time Claudia Schiffer is definitely one of my favourites.  I realise that being blonde myself I have a leaning towards blondes, but she is absolutely one of the most striking blondes of all time.  I still can't quite believe Claudia's now 40.

This sunny shoot is a recent one for Harper's Bazaar UK's July issue, shot by Horst Diekgerdes on Santa Monica beach.  Claudia looks every inch as incredible as ever and I love the retro inspired styling and hot vintage car. I adore how sundrenched and summery these photos are, I really can't choose a favourite.  The black and white shots are gorgeous and the crochet and lace dresses are divine.

Bella Beauty's Vogue Italia Cover

Saturday, June 4, 2011

Move over Abbey Lee, Myf and Samantha Harris, Robyn Lawley is the Australian model everyone's talking about at the moment and this incredible cover is the reason why.  Robyn (far right) features with two other size 14 models, Tara Lynn and Candice Huffine, on the cover of Vogue Italia's June issue shot by the legendary Steven Meisel and in two beautiful editorials inside the issue.

This really is quite a coup for Robyn, gracing the cover of one of the world's most prestigious fashion magazines and being shot by one of the biggest names in fashion photography.  Not just for the fact that Robyn is Australian, but also because she is technically a plus size model.  The last time a plus size model was featured on the cover of Vogue Italia was over 11 years ago and was the stunning Sophie Dahl.

While fashion has been slow to embrace curvier girls, as we all know the tide has been turning for a while now and I think it's a wonderful thing.  Beauty and glamour come in all shapes and sizes and fashion needs to represent that more honestly.  Robyn is a strikingly beautiful girl and I've featured a gorgeous shoot of hers, inspired by 'The Notebook', on my blog earlier in the year here.  She is represented by Bella Models in Australia who specialise in pretty plus size girls.  The fact that the agency is doing really well and is so successful is definitely a positive thing for the modeling industry.

Congratulations Robyn, you look absolutely amazing in your Vogue Italia shoots, I hope it leads to even more exciting opportunities for you.

You can check out the Belle Vere editorial, also shot by Steven Meisel, from the issue here.
