Sweet And Subtle Salasai

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Ruffles, feathers and bows are some of my favourite things, but sometimes what a girl wants is simplicity and pieces that are cleverly tailored while being effortlessly chic, yet relaxed.  Salasai is a brilliant New Zealand label, designed by Kirsha Whitcher, which specialises in cool clothing for both sexes with androgynous appeal.  While the mixing of genders in fashion isn't really my thing, given my own curvy shape, I am drawn to the more girlish pieces in this lovely collection.  Both blue dresses on this page really appeal to me and are on my want list for their sweet silhouettes and subtle tailoring.

This collection for Spring/Summer 11/12 is entitled 'A Strange Love Project' has 40's and 50's influences, in particular the films 'Revolutionary Road' and 'Delicatessen'.  I love the way those influences have been given a modern twist, even though the vintage inspiration is clear to see.  It's a really wearable, practical collection that's so stylish and perfect for sweet summer days.  You can check out the rest of the collection and more of the guys pieces on the Salasai website here.

What do you think of new season Salasai?

  1. I like the jacket that's been styled over the black/white polka dot dress. Sometimes I worry that Salasi pieces are too shapeless... but I imagine they'd be fine with a belt. Their look books just happen to be particular androgynous!
