NZFW 2012: Annah Stretton

Sunday, September 16, 2012

Twenty years in the fickle business of fashion is definitely something to be celebrated and Annah Stretton did just that with her NZFW show.  Starting with her Winter 2013 collection which was very feminine and vintage-inspired, she then presented a 'best-of' collection of looks from her 20 years in the business including the infamous boar's head outfit from 2004.

Glamourous and very ladylike, Annah Stretton's Winter collection was reminiscint of the golden era of Hollywood with long column evening gowns and beautiful prom like dresses complete with floral corsages.  The daywear was also suitably pretty with midi length tea-dresses, tailored coats and pussy bow blouses, a bit more prim than Stretton's usual collections but really lovely and quite fifties.

The celebratory segment of her show brought back some of her wilder creations with the models dancing down the runway with long red hair that reminded me of Ariel from The Little Mermaid.  Lively and joyous, the second half of the show was a real celebration including a local drag queen on the runway.  Stretton herself joined the models for the finale looking radiant and relaxed.  Huge congratulations to her on such a stellar effort over the past twenty years.
