NZFW 2012: Ruby & Liam

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Ruby and Liam kicked off the first day of NZFW this year with a midday show and a gorgeous start to a big week of local fashion.  In their third fashion week outing (second for Liam) Ruby and Liam pulled off a slick show with perfect styling.

Liam (Ruby's grown up older sister) was up first with another elegant collection, with lots of beautiful grecian style draping in a muted colour palette of olive, lilac, mint green, navy, grey, ivory and black, with colour pops of tomato red.  The makeup was minimal with subtle winged eyeliner and the hair was swept up in chic chignons to create a ladylike look.

Lots of feminine silhouettes with modern twists made for a really lovely collection.  The long silk gowns were perfectly goddess-like, the blazers and dresses suitably grown up.  I loved the long lean lines in this collection and the soft draping, these garments looked like they were a dream to wear.  Definitely a strong third collection for Liam.

Ruby's turn on the runway was fresh and fun with lots of energy and bounce.  A strong collection of  wearable casual pieces mixed in with some really pretty party dresses made for a totally covetable range.  Bright blue eye makeup and grey wooly beanies kept the look young and streetwise.

Graphic prints, stripes and metallics in girlish garments were complemented by Ruby's own range of shiny brogues and high heels, the overall look was cohesive and fashion forward.  I loved this range as well and the standout pieces for me were the pleated metallic dresses for their glamour factor.  I really can't wait for both these collections to be instore.
