Twenty-Seven Names on the runway at NZFW 2012
It's hard to believe 2012 is almost over already, with just hours left to go now, I've been thinking back on my past year in fashion and the moments and memories dearest to me.  I've been incredibly to have been involved in the fashion industry in NZ, Australia and the UK this year and have attended so many brilliant events, fashion weeks and learned so much more than I could have imagined.  I have big plans and ideas for 2013 (which include even more blogging) and can't wait to share them with you very soon.  In the meantime here are some of my favourite things from this past year in fashion:

Favourite cover: Vogue Australia's stunning October cover featuring Lana Del Rey in a gorgeous Sylvia Plath inspired shoot.  The perfect pairing of Del Rey's doe-eyed beauty and retro style, with fashion maven and Senior Fashion Editor Christine Centenera's brilliant fashion eye made for the most enchanting portrait of Lana I've seen so far.  The eye-catching cover further enhanced by the beautiful pages of editorial contained in the issue.  I'm still drawn to this cover and find myself picking up the issue to flick through even a couple of months later.

Favourite new label I discovered this year: Surface Too Deep.  Finding a beautiful niche in a world full of garish brights, these two lovely Wellington ladies, Esther and Sarah-Jane, create winsome vintage inspired swimwear in exclusive prints which sets my heart a flutter.  Whilst I had heard of them before, I didn't get to see their creations up close until NZFW in September and was captivated by their charming presence on the runway.  I'm certainly not the only one to be enchanted by this lovely label either as their presence has gone from strength to strength post-NZFW.  You can check out their delightful swimwear on their website here.

Favourite international runway: Raf Simons debut for Christian Dior.  The most highly anticipated and dissected show of the year, Raf Simons beautiful take on Dior's New Look history took my breath away.  Whilst much was said about the flower lined salon walls, the front row made up of the world's best designers and huge cost of the couture show, it was the amazing garments paired with the clean styling that made my heart beat faster.  I've always been a fan of the those stunning New Look silhouettes and Raf Simons made them modern and utterly covetable whilst referencing Dior's glorious past.  Close runner ups: Alice Temperley's divine 'Return to Elegance' collection in London, Valentino's exquisite S/S 2013 collection in Paris and Dries Van Noten's stunning Kurt Cobain influenced S/S 2013 collection.

Favourite local (nz) runway: Blue Sky.  The creation of local PR guru Murray Bevan from Showroom 22, the first Blue Sky event in April brought together three fabulous kiwi labels, Alexandra Owen, Salasai and Juliette Hogan for a night of inspiring runway at Australis House.  With an impeccably dressed audience of leading fashion industry insiders, media and talent, the night showcased the three strong S/S 2013 collections in a slickly produced event that remained the highlight of my 2012 event schedule.  Although the Marr Factory, NZFW and The Art of Footwear by Kathryn Wilson are also high on my list of wonderful fashion events from 2012.

Favourite editorial: Ymre Stiekema in Vogue Japan's October issue lensed by Giampaolo Sgura.  I'm a big Marie Antoinette fan and this exquisite editorial hit all the right notes with me, from the detailed styling and beautiful garments to the decadent set.  I love that due to the trend for baroque inspired fashion we're seeing more luxurious shoots. Check out the rest of this incredible editorial on Fashion Gone Rogue here.

Favourite style inspiration: Taylor Swift.  From her ladylike daywear and scarlet lips to her elegant red carpet choices, Taylor Swift is a celebrity embracing her feminine side in the best possible way.  In an era where popstars are known more for what they reveal than cover up, Taylor does demure and refined in a way that's inspiring and rapidly gaining in popularity.  I particularly love the vintage-inspired looks in her 'Begin Again' video shot in Paris, every single outfit is totally covetable.  Taylor knows that grace and elegance never go out of style and I applaud her for staying true to herself and what she likes.

Me at NZFW 2012 in September

Lastly a huge thank you to you, my wonderful readers, my amazing fashion family in NZ and spread all over the world, and all the fantastic people I've met and worked with this year.  You have made my world a truly exciting one and I'm so grateful to have each and every one of you in my life.  I'm also so very thankful for all the amazing opportunities I've had this year and can't wait to see what 2013 brings!

Just So Pretty x
