The Great Gatsby Goes Prada

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

The amazing Miuccia Prada released sketches today of some of the 40 amazing costumes she's collaborated on for the upcoming film version of The Great Gatsby directed by Baz Luhrmann.  The stunning costumes are inspired by styles from the archives at Miu Miu and Prada and were created in collaboration with the film's Production Designer Catherine Martin.  The story of The Great Gatsby is set in the 1920s, which was a gorgeous time for fashion and if these sketches and the few film stills available are anything to go by the costumes are as luxurious and authentic as the gorgeous outfits of the time.

I have to admit I'm really excited about this film for many reasons, I've always enjoyed Baz Luhrmann's highly stylised films and the production design is just exquisite in his works.  I'm also really fond of Miuccia Prada's designs and Prada and Miu Miu's history, so I can't wait to see some of their archive re-interpreted and brought to glamourous life for the film.  It's released in New Zealand on June 6th and I will be hanging out to see it on the big screen.
