The Rapid Rise Of Holly Rose

Holly Rose in Kate Sylvester's Spring/Summer 2014 campaign

I'll confess a year ago I hadn't heard of Holly Rose Emery, the 17 year old Auckland teenager who has recently walked in Paris on the couture runways for the likes of  master couturiers Valentino and Elie Saab. Why you ask?  Well, Holly Rose has literally only been modeling a year, her first runway appearance was at New Zealand Fashion Week last September and as much as she was tipped to be a modeling star on the rise at the time, I don't think anyone would have predicted quite how far she's come in the past year.

I first came across Holly Rose at NZFW also, and in the following months afterwards when she walked in a few events for my former employer Trelise Cooper.  I was struck by how professional, sweet and of course stunning she is, there is something angelic and innocent about her face, yet she has the poise and maturity on the runway of a much more experienced model.  Signed with mother agency Red Eleven in Auckland, Holly Rose was a popular choice by local designers and appeared in numerous campaigns and editorials in the months after NZFW.  However her international trajectory really began when she started working in Sydney earlier in the year with Chic Management.

When Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia rolled around in early April, it was Holly Rose who was the top model of the week, booking twenty shows, which is a pretty impressive feat for a relative newbie, especially as it was slightly more than popular Aussie models Julia Nobis and Amanda Ware.  Amongst those shows were some of the biggest names in Australian fashion, with Holly Rose gracing the runway for Alex Perry, Ellery, Camilla and Marc, Romance Was Born, Toni Maticevski and Jayson Brunsdon.  She also walked for Kate Sylvester and most recently appeared in Kate's beautiful new campaign for her Marilyn Monroe inspired collection entitled 'The Last Sitting' (image above) which was my favourite show at MBFWA.

Following her popularity at MBFWA, Holly Rose next began appearing in campaigns and look books for more of Australia's favourite labels, but even more excitingly after a brief stint back and forth between NZ and Australia, Holly Rose took a trip to New York where she was quickly signed by Next Models, who also have offices in London, Paris and Milan.  From there Holly Rose next popped up in Milan on the runway for iconic super-brand Prada, as one of just a handful of female models at the menswear shows - pretty amazing for her first proper international show outside the southern hemisphere!

With her mum by her side for support, Holly Rose moved swiftly on to a week in Paris, where she was booked for four haute couture shows, walking first for Ulyana Sergeenko, then Elie Saab, Armani Prive and Valentino.  I can only imagine how thrilling and somewhat nerve-wracking it would have been to be dressed in incredibly expensive haute couture garments and walking in front of the fashion world's most elite audience, but she did a wonderful job and I have to admit I did let out a little squeal of excitement when I first recognised her on the pages of Style.com on the runway in Paris.

Wild Rose editorial in Vogue Australia's August issue
Rounding out what I'm sure has seemed like an unbelievable year for the young teenager is her first major overseas editorial, Holly Rose features in Vogue Australia's recently released August issue in a solo editorial entitled 'Wild Rose', the images of which, shot by Nicole Bentley, are delightfully pretty.  The sweet styling and insouciant poses give these shots an elve-like feel if you ask me and suit her down to a tee.

At present hard-working Holly Rose is still overseas, having been traveling and working solidly in the northern hemisphere for the past couple of months now, according to her Instagram she's currently in London right now, so I'm sure it will just be a matter of time before we see stunning images of her again and I bet her very own magazine cover isn't that far away either.  I definitely can't wait to see what Holly Rose does next!
