Lose Yourself With Juliette Hogan

Saturday, September 28, 2013

Wednesday night saw Auckland's fashion set gather for one of the most anticipated shows of the upcoming winter season by my favourite local label Juliette Hogan.  Opting not to show at NZFW this year, but instead hosting her own event in the beautiful historic setting of Hopetoun Alpha, there was a palpable buzz before the show as the full house waited for Juliette's Winter 2014 collection titled 'Lose Yourself' to be unveiled.

Celine Rita's Royal Summer

Thursday, September 19, 2013

It's delightful to watch a designer develop and go from strength to strength with each new season, so it was with great pleasure that I got to preview talented designer Celine Chapman's upcoming 'A Captivating Lady' Summer 2013/14 collection for her pretty young label Celine Rita last week.  Drawing inspiration from the most iconic of muses, the late Princess Diana, Celine's range is a beautiful collection of pieces that explore the evolution of Diana's style in the public eye.  Starting with the shy kindergarten teacher who captured the world's imagination and moving on to the confident woman who did things her own way and embodied the modern monarchy, Diana left an indelible mark on the world of fashion.

NZFW: The Wrap Up

Model Jennifer Tooley on the runway for Twenty-seven Names

It's hard to believe New Zealand Fashion Week is done and dusted for another year, as per usual it flew by in a busy blur and perhaps, since it was shorter than ever, was all over and done with way too quickly.  It's been nearly a week now and it's taken me this long to put my wrap up into words because I wanted to reflect for a few days on everything.  Usually for me the day after fashion week and indeed the few days afterwards have that day after Christmas feeling, the mild blues following intense, emotional and sometimes overwhelming highs.  But unfortunately this year there wasn't all that much to get really excited about.

Don't get me wrong there were some stellar collections, Zambesi definitely presented the show and collection of the week, their backstage reveal made for one of the most fascinating shows ever at NZFW. Some of my favourite labels; Twenty-seven Names, Hailwood and Salasai, all presented brilliant collections and Twenty-seven names effortlessly cool yet oh so charming collection was the perfect start to the week. It's just that some others were decidedly lacklustre and a few didn't feel runway ready at all, much less for fashion week where the standard is usually very high and the best in the industry are perched on their seats in anticipation hoping to be delighted.

The Marr Factory: Kate Sylvester

Sunday, September 1, 2013

Back in April I blogged about Kate Sylvester's incredible new collection shown at MBFWA in Sydney, 'The Last Sitting', inspired by the last few years of Marilyn Monroe's life.  Now it's no secret I was completely smitten with it all and would cheerfully add every piece to my wardrobe, so you can imagine how excited I was to be invited to see it again on the last night of The Marr Factory at Auckland's Golden Dawn.
