The Marr Factory: Kate Sylvester

Sunday, September 1, 2013

Back in April I blogged about Kate Sylvester's incredible new collection shown at MBFWA in Sydney, 'The Last Sitting', inspired by the last few years of Marilyn Monroe's life.  Now it's no secret I was completely smitten with it all and would cheerfully add every piece to my wardrobe, so you can imagine how excited I was to be invited to see it again on the last night of The Marr Factory at Auckland's Golden Dawn.

Taking literal inspiration from Marilyn's billowing white dress over a subway grate in 'The Seven Year Itch', the models entered the runway to a similar effect at Golden Dawn, their billowing skirts and dressing giving way to playful smiles and sexy air kisses as they then preceded to strut the runway in a manner that played beautiful homage to Monroe.

On second viewing the collection was even more stunning close-up and it was a pleasure to admire the clever details; leather baseball stitching, delicate floral embroidery and shimmery embellishments as they glided by on the runway.  I have to say it was also the most packed I have ever seen Golden Dawn, with a capacity crowd cheering on the fun and coquettish display.

The best part is this gorgeous collection has started arriving in Kate Sylvester stores and online, so if you're as keen as I am to add a few of these pretty pieces to your wardrobe you can check it out here.
