Georgia Alice Wins DHL Fashion Export Scholarship 2014

Wednesday, November 12, 2014

Congratulations to the amazing Georgia Currie of local label Georgia Alice who was just announced as the winner of the $10,000 DHL Fashion Export Scholarship for 2014 this morning.  This is the seventh year the scholarship has been run and it's designed to help fashion businesses achieve further exporting growth, getting more brilliant New Zealand fashion into overseas markets.

Georgia Alice started in 2012 and is currently in its fifth season as a label, I first wrote about it last February here and have continued to be impressed with Georgia's achievements since then.  This prize is going to be a huge help to expand her growth although she already has an impressive 24 stockists already with boutiques in LA and New York stocking her designs.

"I am beyond thrilled to have won the DHL Fashion Export Scholarship," enthuses Georgia. "Georgia Alice currently has stockists throughout Australasia and North America and over the next 12 months with the amazing additional support from DHL Georgia Alice will be able to confidently continue to export and maintain growth internationally.  I am overwhelmed that my brand has been selected and so excited for the future.  A huge thank you to the judges who saw the potential in my brand, and of course to every girl out there wearing Georgia Alice."

Both Sly Guild (runner up) and Lucy McIntosh (third place) also receive assistance from DHL and support from FINZ (Fashion Industry New Zealand) in the form of a mentoring package which will no doubt be invaluable as these businesses grow and reach international markets.  I'm so pleased that this scholarship exists to help support this young talent and I can't wait to see where these labels go in the future.
