That Seventies Spirit with Glassons edt. #5

Sunday, May 31, 2015

Glassons Split Sleeve Rollneck Top and Denim Skirt from their new edt. #5 collection.

Just in time for the arrival of winter, Glassons latest edt. #5 range has dropped in stores bringing with it the laidback charm of the seventies in a collection of easy to wear pieces.  Since the creation of the edt. range it's been extremely popular with key styles selling out quickly and each collection delivering good pieces with a higher end approach than the usual offerings from Glassons. With a focus on natural fabrics, including wool, silk, cotton and linen blends, this range takes classic shapes and gives them a modern twist like the deep-v of the flared dungarees which feel vintage-inspired but very much of the moment.

Ruby's Roitfeld Winter

Ella from Ruby's High Street store in the Romy playsuit.

There's just something about French women, they certainly have an innate sense of style and it's unsurprising that many of fashion's muses are French, including Julia Restoin Roitfeld, who inspired Ruby's new High-Winter collection. She's the daughter of Carine Roitfeld, former editor of Vogue Paris, and the New York-based model and art director is a fashion favourite for her chic street style and beautifully curated Instagram which currently has a following of 195,000+.

My Favourite Fashion Films

Image from RHIE 2014 - The Purgatory of Monotony.

Film was my first career love, as much as fashion has always been in my life, it was film school not fashion school I attended first and for eight years I worked in film and television, which is an era in my life I'm particularly fond of. I've always been a creative person and upon deciding to get into fashion I also wanted to keep the imagination and joy that I found with film in my fashion career too. Unsurprisingly then fashion films hold a great appeal for me and when I was researching a fashion film I was lucky enough to direct for Trelise Cooper a couple of years ago, I came across so many of them I enjoyed and now there's even more fashion films and whole festivals dedicated to them as well.

Model Ruby Rose wearing Cathy Pope Jewellery's new The Pink City collection.

Rose quartz has long been a favourite gemstone of mine, it's affectionately known as the 'love' stone and I'm always on the lookout to add another special rose quartz piece to my collection.  You can imagine my delight then when I saw that Cathy Pope Jewellery's latest range 'The Pink City' features rose quartz, along with pink rubies, deep blue aventurine and black rutile quartz in fine silver and gold settings.

Amber Whitecliffe's Mumbai Madness

Don Bosco dress by Amber Whitecliffe from her 'Mumbai Madness' collection

One of the best things about travel is the inspiration it provides and India is certainly full of amazing sights.  Designer Amber Pinto from local label Amber Whitecliffe journeyed to Mumbai earlier this year, which is where she drew the colourful inspiration for her winter collection 'Mumbai Madness'. While New Zealanders adoration of black is widely known, Amber thought it would be fun to take the working woman's usual black wardrobe and add a clever juxtaposition in the form of exotic Indian prints and textures.  The result is a unique collection which melds gorgeous fabrics with flattering silhouettes to create a range of sophisticated office to evening looks.

Favourite Find: Macgraw's Miss Cavalleri Dress

macgraw Miss Cavalleri dress in blue lace.

Sometimes, there are those amazing items you come across that you can't help but want to share, even if they're so gorgeous you kind of want to keep them to yourself.  I realised that I should start documenting these pieces on this blog so I can share with you the things that I think you really must see as well as the usual new collections etc. that I post about.  Back when I first started this blog I used to do Monday must-have posts so this is kind of an updated version of that but will happen only when I find something truly special to share.  For the first post in this new series I've chosen this amazing Miss Cavalleri lace dress by macgraw, who are a Sydney-based label I've been following for the past three years since I first heard about them through a stylist friend of mine.
