Lucy McIntosh's Gas dress from her SS15 collections

Elegance can be tricky to describe in words, but you know it when you see it and there's no question that Lucy McIntosh has it. Her collections possess a timeless feel while maintaining a contemporary edge in silhouettes that are feminine and carefully tailored with sculptural touches. There's a definite sophistication to these pieces and an understanding that dressing should be easy with options that complement each other in several combinations.

Karen Walker's Catalina Ruffle dress.

A lot has changed since Vogue first identified the Little Black Dress (LBD) as a shape of the future in 1926, back then it was Coco Chanel's simple yet elegant crepe de chine sheath which turned heads and changed the way women dressed. Fast forward to 2015 and black has become a staple in many wardrobes, and the LBD is worn at any opportunity, especially for evening wear. Karen Walker has recognised this in her new cocktail wear edit which teams the beautiful black dresses from her Elizabeth collection with gorgeous cocktail jewellery for a sophisticated effect.

Get to know The Gentlewoman Library

The current issue of The Gentlewoman featuring Bjork.

The Gentlewoman has been one of my favourite magazines since I first bought a copy while studying at the London College of Fashion a few years ago. At the time buying the magazine for a whole five pounds while being a fashion student was a luxury, but one that I afforded because of the depth of inspiration and knowledge I found in its pages in each issue.  Much like another of my favourite magazines, Love, The Gentlewoman is biannual which also meant I could justify the expense and when I moved back to New Zealand I made sure to pack my issues of it amongst my university folders.
