Get to know The Gentlewoman Library

The current issue of The Gentlewoman featuring Bjork.

The Gentlewoman has been one of my favourite magazines since I first bought a copy while studying at the London College of Fashion a few years ago. At the time buying the magazine for a whole five pounds while being a fashion student was a luxury, but one that I afforded because of the depth of inspiration and knowledge I found in its pages in each issue.  Much like another of my favourite magazines, Love, The Gentlewoman is biannual which also meant I could justify the expense and when I moved back to New Zealand I made sure to pack my issues of it amongst my university folders.

One of the things I like most about it, aside from the striking and clean photography, is the intelligent interviews and how they focus on fascinating women who are accomplished and are leading intriguing lives.  Editor Penny Martin does a brilliant job of choosing women whose personal style is impeccable, as it is a fashion magazine after all, but also who represent modern women at many ages and stages of life.  You can imagine how delighted I was then to discover a while ago that many of The Gentlewoman's interviews are also printed in full in the library on their website.  If you've missed an issue or have never read the magazine before it's the perfect place to read some great writing and learn more about some wonderful women.

One of my favourite interviews is with Angela Lansbury who is an octogenarian now but still working and as sharp as she ever was.  Her views on life, love, work, sex and everything in between are definitely engaging and there are many more compelling interviews on there to read as well including; Vivienne Westwood, Susan Sarandon, Tilda Swinton, Olivia Williams, Katie Hillier and Phoebe Philo amongst others.  I suggest you spend some down time getting to know the captivating women of The Gentlewoman.
